Blog Post #20 "Spagbol" p. 147

Invent a dry food you would ttake with you on your journey if you were Tally. What would it be and how would you make it?

I would take PIZZA. Pizza is something you can eat cold or hot. While I am on my journey, I could start a fire and just heat it up.

*Make a list of things you would miss about your home if you were forced to leave it as Tally was.

* My phone

* My doggy

* My sister

* My kitty

* My mommy

* My daddy

* My pool

* My bed

* My friends

* My Ipod

Blog Post #19 "Leaving" p. 139

Why do you think Tally ultimately decides to figure out where Shay is?

I think Tally is thinking to herself that she will find Shay, and when she see's what Shay has traveled to, and how Shay is living now, she will then decide wheather she is going to turn Shay in or stay with Shay and not break her promise.

Blog Post #18 "Infilitrator"

Give in Chronological order the list of important events in this chapter.

1. Tally goes to give Dr.Cable a visit

2. She told her about what Shay had already revealed

3. Dr.Cable explains the list wasw made so only Tally could understand

4. She learns she will need to be the "infiltrator"

5. Dr.Cable convinces Tally to agree

Blog Post #17 "Peris" p. 120

Why do you htink Peris comes back? Support your answer with textual evidence.

You'll love it, Tally. Being pretty's the best thing ever. And I'll enjoy it about a million times more once you're there with me."

For some reason, I think Peris is going to turn his back on Tally and end up like working with the people of Special Circumstances.

Blog Post #16 "Ugly for Life" p. 111

Respond to the following quote:
"Everywhere she went, eyes looked away. But it was the most visible she had ever felt."

I think that she finally see's that just because she's not pretty doesn't mean she's not there.

Blog Post #15 "Special Circumstances"

Summarize the chapter highlighting the important events in chronological order. Predict what you think will happen next.

In this chapter, Dr. Cable brings Tally in and tells her that they are looking for Shay and some other people who have decided to leave New Pretty Town.
Tally remembers the promise she made Shay and decides to turn doewn the offer to help them. When Tally doesn't give in, they tell her that she has to choose between turning in Shay, or not being pretty.

I predict that Tally will not give in and go to find Shay and elp her instead of turning her in.

Characterization: Dr. Cable

Dr. Cable is not happy with Shay leaving New Pretty Town, and now she is threatening Tally about not becoming pretty. She seems very dominant when it comes to something she wants.

Blog Post B. #14 "Operation"

Summarize the chapter highlighting the important events in chronological order. Predict what you think will happen next.

Tally was really excited to be turning 16 and becoming pretty. When she was finally ready to be changed, she gets the news that she is being brought into "Special Circumstances".
I think that Tally will end up refusing to help the doctors and go to look for Shay.

Blog Post A. #14 "Last Trick"

Respond to the following Quote, what does it mean to you?

"We don't have to look like everyone else, Tally, and act like everyone else. We've got a choice. We can grow up any way we want."

Well to me, I have to agree. Like i think I have said, I would prefer not to be like everyone else.
I want to be unique. And to add, I absolutly do not want to be around someone who is like a clone of everyone else.

Blog Post #12 "Waiting for David" p. 69

What does the following quote from the chapter tell you about the city?

"That was onw thing about eing outside the city: It made all that nature stuff they taught in school seem alot more usefull. She remembered now how the rainfall fell on the moutains and soaked into the ground..."

It tells you about how fake the town is, and how what they are learning in school and stuff is useless because they keep all the pretty's kept up together inside of the city. So all the stuff they teach is pointless.

Blog Post #11- "The Rusty Ruins" p.61

Write a one paragraph summary of this chapter. Tell the important events in chronological order.
Shay keeps asking Tally to go Hoverboarding with her. When Taly finally gives in, she learns how to hover board. Then Shay invites her to go to the Rusty Ruins. When they get there Shay shows Tallk a rollercoaster. Then Shay tells Tally about David.

Find two similies in this chapter and quote them, as well as the page number.
A shape emerged from the forest, a long spine that rose and fell like a frozen wave. Pg. 63

Every building sported jagged spurs of metal sticking from its broken walls, like bones jutting from a long-dead animal. Pg. 62

Blog Post #10- "Rapids" p.53

In this chapter Tally says "I kind of like being fooled about some things." Do you agree with Tally, or would you rather know the reality behind everything? Why?
I like being fooled by things because if we knew everything life would be predictable and nothing would make anything worth doing.

Find information about the origin of white water rafting and post it here, along with the website URL.
It is interesting to note that whitewater rafting was one of the earliest forms of transportation. It was not only used for carrying people but also for transferring goods from one place to another. However, it became quite popular as a form of leisure activity in the 1980s.
In 1811, the first recorded attempt to navigate the Snake River in Wyoming was planned by the Overland Astorians. While attempting to boat the stretch below Jackson Hole, the river was found to be too treacherous and it came to be called ?Mad River.?
The rubber river raft is believed to have been invented in the early 1840s. It was first made by Lt. John Fremont, who was then serving in the U.S army and Horace H. Day. They invented the rubber raft with the intention of surveying the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains. Although the raft was invented in the mid-nineteenth century, it was not until the turn of the century that the first ever commercial whitewater trip was undertaken. At first, surplus military rafts were used as boats and it was only much later that inflatable rafts were used.
Private companies played a major role in augmenting the rafting business. In 1956, one of the members of the most affluent business families of America, John D. Rockefeller built a resort that introduced one of the first floating trips in the country. However, it only evoked a lukewarm response. Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, exclusive whitewater rafting companies were formed. These include the Becker-Cooke Expeditions, Hatch River Expeditions and Slickrock Adventures

Blog Post #8- "Facing the Future"

Refelct the following quotes from the chapter, what does each mean to you.
"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."
Well this makes me think of someone who is not so confident with themself.
"This whole game is desighned to make us hate ourselves."
When I read this I think of someone who is taking life as a game and is insecure on how they look or feel about themselves.
"Everyone judged everyone else based on their apperarence. People who were taller got better jobs...people killed one another over stuff like having different skin color"
This just makes me think of our world today.
"It's the only way to make people equal."
This sounds like someone came up with an idea about giving people equal rights not based on how they look.

Blog Post #7- "Wipeout" p.33

Think of another book, movie or comic (exc) in which people use hover boards. How are they used? If possible post a video of this.
Back to the Future!

There are several theories about how the Hoverboard could work. Space Magnetics (originally named Hovertech) experimented with ferrofluid force fields , attempting to ionize a column of air interacting with a magnetic fluid, forming a bubble which the board could rest on. This technology was never made to work, as the ferrofluid simply stuck to the sides of its casing when activated.Another possible way is by use of geomagnetics, the act of repelling against the earth's magnetic field. So far there have been no signifant advances toward completing a working device that can do this. It would require a large magnetic pull, as the earth's magnetic field is very weak.There is one technology however that shows real promise in the field. HoverTech claims that they will be able to turn a column of air into a conductive plasma, run an electrical current through it, and repel against that field with powerful magnets. This is a technology called Optomagnetic Suspension.

Why do you think the new preties don't come back to Uglyville to visit? Describe their physical & mental transformation into new pretties.
I think they didn't come back because when they turned pretty they didn't miss what they had. Maybe it was easier for them to leave their old life by not looking back, instead of coming back and forth.

Well obviously when you become pretty, you don't look the same way you did. They're feelings about Uglies didn't matter because they don't care.

Blog Post #6- "Shay" p.23

Write a one paragraph summary of this chapter.
After tally jumped off the tower of the Garbo Mansion she is sure she will be caught. Tally knows that if she is caught she will never be able to become pretty, and she will never be able to once again be with Peris. With the police scattered around the town, Tally manages to escape back tot he bridge where she came from. There as she is sneaking through the woods, she meets another ugly, Shay. After they get to talking they decide they should be friends.

What have you learned about Shay? Is she like Tally? Make a prediction about what will happen between Tally and Shay.
So far, I have learned that Shay also has an urge to see what New Pretty Town is like, risking the chance of being caught. Yes, Shay is like Tally in the way that they are both curious as to see how far they can go without being caught. They both seem adventurous.
I predict that Shay and Tally will both be good friends in the near future. They seem to have clicked well together by the bridge.

Blog Post #5- "Bestfriends Forever" p. 11

Why do you think New Pretty Town advocates bungee jumping?
I think that the people of New Pretty Town will do anything to make there image look better to make the Uglies look forward to becoming pretty.

Find information about the history of bungee jumping and post it along with the website URL.
Bungee has quite an old origin. The idea of this way of jumping comes from the ancient ritual "Gkol" performed in the Pentecost Island in the Pacific Archipelago of Vanuatu. The legend says that in the village Bunlap a man called Tamalie had a quarrel with his wife and she ran away and climbed a Banyan tree where she wrapped her ankles with liana vines. When Tamalie came up to her, the woman jumped from the tree and so did her husband not knowing what had his wife done. So he died but the woman survived. The men of Bunlap were very impressed by this performance and they began to practise such jumps in case they got in similar situation. This practice transformed into a ritual for rich yam harvest and also for proving manhood.Modern bungee jumping as we know it today actually started on the 1st of April ( Fools' Day ) 1979 when group of people from the Oxford University Dangerous Sport Club, impressed by a film about "vine jumpers", jumped from 245-Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England. Using nylon braided, rubber shock cord instead of vines, and dressed in their customary top hat and tails, they performed a four man simultaneous jump .The enthysiasts promptly were arrested for this. But at least hit the world press the next day. The new adrenaline mania has been started. The D.S.C. performed many other jumps, including one off the Golden Gate Bridge. In early 1988, A.J. Hackett and Chris Allum, opened the first commercial jump site in Ohakune, New Zealand. Hackett also made a great commercial show in 1987 when he jumped from the Eiffel Tower in Paris.. As part of the site publicity, Hackett performed an astounding bungee jump from the Eiffel Tower! Nowadays there have already been a lot of towers,cranes,bridges and even hot-air balloons serving as platforms for jumping and bungee is the simplest and easily understood of the aerial extreme sports.

Blog Post # 4- "Bestfriends Forever" p. 11

Characterization: Tally
To start off, Tally is an Ugly. She is 15 and when she turns 16 she will become a pretty.
She seems to have some kind of feelings for peris, and she misses him. She also seems determined to achive her goal of becoming pretty and being able to reunite with Peris again.
Characterization: Peris
Peris is pretty. He has changed since he became pretty. From what we have read he seems to want to be friends with tally again, but he knows it would not be right. So when he makes Tally promise not to get into trouble, you can tell that he does want to be friends with Tally again, but he was being safe, for Tally's sake.

How do you feel about Tally and Peris's friendship? Are they true bestfriends? Why or why not?
I feel that the relationship between Tally and Peris is real. So far it seems like both of them sort of miss what they had before. I believe that when Tally turns pretty, they will both be very gratefull to be together again.

"new pretty town" p. 3

Find & quote one oxymoron from the chapter or one example of irony.

I didn't have the book, so I was no able to find an answer to this question.

Why do you think Tally chose to wear a mask to the party that was deemed "white tie" ?

I think she chose to wear it because masks were made to cover up something that was not eant to be shown. Since she was an ugly, her wearing the mask was a very smart choice.

Masks have been designed in innumerable varieties, from the simplest of crude “false faces” held by a handle to complete head coverings with ingenious movable parts and hidden faces. Mask makers have shown great resourcefulness in selecting and combining available materials. Among the substances utilized are woods, metals, shells, fibers, ivory, clay, horn, stone, feathers, leather, furs, paper, cloth, and corn husks. Surface treatments have ranged from rugged simplicity to intricate carving and from polished woods and mosaics to gaudy adornments.
